No motor truck, tractor or trailer whose combined weight of body and load exceeds five tons shall be permitted on any of the streets or portions of streets within the city other than those listed herein, except that travel to or from points of destination or origin not located on one of the streets or portions of streets designated herein shall be permissible via the shortest practicable route between such point of origin or destination and the nearest street or portion of street designated herein, subject to the restrictions in Section 154-1522.
These amendments to the route designation list will ensure a clear and accurate list and map of New Orleans' truck routes, serving as a basis for the City's efforts around route signage, education and awareness, and enforcement, all aimed at improving compliance of operation of trucks and oversize vehicles on our roads.
This ordinance was adopted by the Council on September 17, 2020.
